| Application and Timing |
Spraying should be carried out when the grass and weeds are beginning to grow actively, usually between mid March and early May depending on the season. Application should be made in calm weather when vegetation is dry. Care must be taken to wet the foliage thoroughly and a volume of at least 900 litres per hectare is advised. To obtain the even coverage necessary to achieve good results, the spray boom should be kept about 23 cm above the top of the foliage. It is recommended that cone nozzles should be used, spaced 23 cm apart on the spray boom. Areas not accessible to spray units may be treated with a hand lance.

| Grass Cutting |
| The grass may be cut 14-21 days after treatment to give the sward a tidier appearance and to remove any uneven winter growth. In certain situations (such as housing estates) it is sometimes preferred to cut the grass before spraying. In this situation five days should be allowed to elapse between cutting and spraying, to ensure that sufficient leaf area is present to absorb the herbicide. |
| |
| When there are large areas requiring treatment with REGULOX K, it is sometimes not possible to treat all these areas at the correct time in the Spring. In these situations, REGULOX K when applied in the Autumn (before the end of September), will give control of grass growth for five to seven weeks in the following Spring. This will allow the programming of spring spraying operations to be spread over a longer period. When this technique is employed an application rate of REGULOX K at 16.0 litres in 900-1100 litres of water per hectare must not be exceeded. |
| Tree Growth Inhibitor |
| REGULOX K is a tree growth inhibitor for the control of shoots on the trunk and suckers around the base of street trees. It also inhibits the development of buds on the trunk, which remain dormant following treatment.
The following species have shown complete response to REGULOX K treatment with no ill effects. |
| TREATMENT OF ARTERIAL ROADS, HOUSING ESTATES AND AMENITY AREAS |
|
|
| First spray mid March/early May |
16.0 litres of REGULOX K in 900-1100 litres of water per hectare (320 ml in 20 litres of water per 200 m2). |
| |
|
| Second Spray 8-10 weeks after first treatment |
16.0 litres REGULOX K in 900-1100 litres of water per hectare (320 ml in 20 litres of water per 200 m2). |
|
|
| TREATMENT OF MOTORWAYS, HIGHWAYS, (OTHER THAN ARTERIAL ROADS) CEMETERIES, CHURCHYARDS, DITCHES AND RIVER BANKS |
|
|
| First spray mid March/early May |
22.5 litres REGULOX K in 900-1100 litres of water per hectare (450 ml in 20 litres of water per 200 m2) |
| |
|
| Second Spray (if required) 12-14 weeks after |
16.0 litres REGULOX K in 900-1100 litres water per hectare (320 ml in 20 litres of water per 200 m2) |

Recommendations in brackets refer to application made with a knapsack type of sprayer.
1 hectare is equivalent to 5 Km of 2 metre wide verge. |
|
| |
| Principal Uses |
| REGULOX K may be used in the following situations:-
For the control of shoots on tree trunks
For the control of suckers around the base of trees
For the control of bud development on tree trunks
For the control of lichen on tree trunks
For the control of grass weeds around the bases of tree trunks |
| Application and Timing |
| The application of REGULOX K may be carried out with any type of pressure knapsack or hand sprayer. The unit should be fitted with a suitable length hose, (about 5 meters) and a hand lance, with a single narrow cone type nozzle, and shut-off valve so that the operator has complete control of the spray fluid during treatment. Spray application should be carried out during fine weather when the trunk of the tree is dry and rain is not expected. It is important to ensure complete wetting of the trunk especially to the pruned and budding areas around the base during the initial treatment. After this initial trunk treatment, REGULOX K, applied annually to budding areas only (or odd base growth) is sufficient to maintain growth control for the season; as with all treatments the trunk should be dry and the weather fine at the time of application.

| Decontamination of Spraying Machine |
| Wash equipment thoroughly, paying particular attention to the inside top of the spray tank, which should be cleaned immediately after use. Spray out, fill with clean water and leave overnight. Traces of this product can cause harm to susceptible crops sprayed later. |
| |
| Cautions |
Care must be taken to avoid drift on to any other crops such as tomatoes, lettuces, brassicas, trees, shrubs and flower beds. Mowings from the first cut of recently sprayed turf should not be used for mulching or compost. Compost made from subsequent mowing should be allowed to rot before being used as a mulch. Susceptible crops such as brassicas or tomatoes must not be mulched with such compost at any time.
REGULOX K must not be used for suppression of sprouting in onions.
DO NOT use REGULOX K in water supply systems, these are reservoirs, treatment works, tunnel pipes and tanks used to store, treat and supply water for human consumption (drinking, washing and cooking).
* Treated water must not be used within three weeks and until the concentration of maleic hydrazide in water is 0.02 ppm.
* A minimum interval of 8 weeks must be observed between treatments to aquatic areas.
* This product must not be applied directly to water bodies.
Damage may result unless all recommendations are carefully followed.
Spraying during windy weather should not be undertaken.
Care should be taken when spraying near parked cars.
Excessive run-down of fluid from the trunk or careless spray drift onto grassed areas around trees should be avoided as damage to the grasses could result. |
| |
| Storage |
| REGULOX K containers must be stored tightly closed in a dry frost-proof area, away from food, feeding stuffs, fertilisers and water supplies. |
| PROTECT FROM FROST
*The maximum concentration of active ingredient in treated water must not exceed 2 ppm or such lower concentration as the appropriate regulatory body may require.
The Water Act 1989 and the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Northern Ireland Water Act 1972, may apply to the act of applying this herbicide for the control of weeds growing by reservoirs and watercourses, e.g. rivers, streams, ditches and drains.
*Users must consult the appropriate water regulatory body (Environment Agency/Scottish Environment Protection Agency) before using this product near water.
Use of aquatic herbicides is subject to the official "Guidelines for the use of Herbicides on Weeds in or near Watercourses and Lakes", Booklet 2078, available free of charge from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, or the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland, which should be read in conjunction with these recommendations. |
